In this study (for my masters thesis), I investigated children's use of digital photography as an art medium. I observed children photographing and using digital cameras, discussed their photographs with them, and analyzed their final images. Utilizing these methods, I hoped to uncover common themes and ideas about their chosen content within their photographs, the photographic techniques employed by the children, and their own ideas about their images. Through an understanding of children’s voluntary photography, I aimed to reveal how children naturally interact with digital photographic media and the kinds of things that they are interested in documenting with the camera.
